7 Best Family-Friendly Summer Vacation Spots

If you’re anything like me, you know that planning a summer trip with kids is both exciting and just a little bit chaotic. But don’t worry—I’ve got you! Whether you're dreaming of sandy beaches, outdoor adventures, or theme park thrills, I've put together a list of my absolute favorite family-friendly summer destinations that are fun, relaxing, and totally doable with kids.

1. Orlando, Florida – A Theme Park Wonderland

There’s no place like Orlando if your crew is craving action-packed fun. From Walt Disney World to Universal Studios, there’s magic around every corner. My tip? Plan a few slower days in between parks to rest and reset.

2. San Diego, California – Beaches and Wild Adventures

San Diego is such a gem for families. You’ve got the world-famous San Diego Zoo, hands-on fun at the Fleet Science Center, and beautiful beaches like La Jolla Shores for sandcastle-building and sunbathing.

Yellowstone National Park

3. Yellowstone National Park – Nature’s Playground

If your family loves the outdoors, Yellowstone is the ultimate summer escape. You’ll see geysers, wildlife, and wide-open spaces that feel straight out of a storybook. My kids especially loved spotting bison and watching Old Faithful erupt!

4. Outer Banks, North Carolina – Laid-Back Coastal Charm

The Outer Banks is one of my personal favorites. It’s relaxed, beautiful, and full of things to do—like kite flying at Jockey's Ridge State Park, visiting historic lighthouses, or just lounging by the water.

5. Banff, Canada – Mountains, Lakes, and Family Hikes

If you're up for an international trip, Banff is breathtaking in summer. Think turquoise lakes, scenic hikes, and wildlife sightings! Check out Banff & Lake Louise Tourism for ideas on easy trails and family-friendly spots.

Myrtle Beach

6. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina – Classic Summer Fun

With its boardwalk, arcades, and family-friendly shows, Myrtle Beach gives off major nostalgic summer vibes. There’s mini golf, water parks, and live entertainment every night—it’s such a fun place for kids and adults alike!

7. Lake Tahoe, California/Nevada – Summer by the Water

Lake Tahoe is absolutely perfect for a summer vacation if your family loves lakeside fun. You can swim, paddleboard, hike, and even ride scenic gondolas. Check out Tahoe South for family events and rental options.

My Tips for a Stress-Free Summer Trip

  • Pack snacks (always!) and a small cooler for long drives or beach days.
  • Build in downtime—some of our best memories happen when we’re just relaxing.
  • Let the kids help plan an activity each day so they feel involved and excited.

No matter where you go, the most important part is being together and making memories. Summer goes by fast, and a little adventure—whether big or small—can be the highlight of your whole year. I hope these destination ideas help spark your next trip!
